01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

A massive kakiage vegetable fritter resting over the rim of the bowl is the signature draw at Yukine, a neighborhood noodle shop near Oshiage Station. As the hot broth seeps into the batter, the crispy tempura gradually softens, allowing you to enjoy the first bites with a satisfying crunch before letting the rest meld into the dashi.

The lunchtime menu centers on affordable sets combining hot kake soba or udon with mini rice bowls. Depending on your appetite, you can pair your noodles with a homestyle mini curry bowl, savory sliced pork over rice, or simply a half-portion of plain rice. Standalone pieces of tempura—such as squid, chicken, or onion—can also be ordered to customize any bowl.

Beyond noodles, Yukine keeps an extensive list of uncomplicated side dishes, including chilled tofu, grilled hanpen fish cake, thick-fried tofu, and grilled mackerel or salmon. A light-drinking set combining draft beer or shochu with tempura, chilled tofu, and sliced fish cake makes the shop just as welcoming for an early evening drink as it is for a casual solo lunch.
